Volunteer Program Application

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Siddhartha School in Stok, Ladakh, India.  In order to provide a match between the needs of the school and the talents of the volunteers we request that you provide us with information about yourself, your background, and your reasons for volunteering.  All applications will be processed by Khen Rinpoche Geshe Kachen Lobzang Tsetan and staff representatives from the Siddhartha School.  The Siddhartha school year goes from April to November; deadline for applications to volunteer is February 1st for the upcoming school year.

Volunteers to the school must pay their own expenses to get to and from Ladakh as well  as expenses while in Ladakh.  There is a school bus from Leh to Stok for transportation to and from the school and lunch at the school can be arranged for 200 Rs. per month.  Volunteers are expected to facilitate teachers but not replace them.  There is a specific need for teacher workshops especially in the use of technical science equipment, solar energy, literacy, use of graphing calculators and assisting in establishing an aspirations or guidance program for the students.

Student contact can come in many forms but especially during the activity period at the end of the day and their free period during the course of the day.  Reading aloud, discussion groups, and other activities that hone the student’s English language skills would be very beneficial.
